Through her work as a vocalist and program designer, Delaney Stewart brings stories of all eras to the modern stage. Her endeavors aim to humanize the characters of tales past, so that humanity can live with empathy in the future.
A consummate storyteller, Delaney dedicates her time to bringing the music of the past forward to meet audiences of the present. As a featured soloist, she is known for her ability to bring a human essence to music both from early and modern periods. Delaney also seeks to lift up and perform new works as a continuation of her mission to highlight the interconnected nature of the past, present, and future. She has recently worked with composers Olina Kilbury and Soumili Mukherjee, premiering new vocal repertoire.
Delaney is known for her warm, dynamic tone and ability to move through florid passages with ease, giving her equal comfort in opera and art song. Well suited to music of many eras, she was awarded honors at the Sue Goetz Ross competition for her performance of both Handel and Poulenc. Delaney will soon take the stage as La Chatte in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and La Natura in Cavalli’s La Calisto.
Her recent work as a program designer and committee member give credit to her mission to situate humanity in the context of the greater world. Delaney performed as a soloist and served as a member of the creative committee for the Gallery of Life project at the Peabody Institute. In this role, she designed the narrative arc, wrote sections of the script, and worked with her fellow performers to create a night of staged art song centered around environmentalism. This passion for programming has also led Delaney to her upcoming project, a recital reflecting on the ways in which young women grow up.
Delaney Stewart is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance at the Peabody Institute of Music under the tutelage of Tony Arnold.
